HIGH DESERT MEDICAL CENTER

This project consists of both a new ground-up Perinatal and Emergency Department addition and renovation. Interior remodel and seismic retrofit of existing emergency department. New masonry block building includes retaining walls, a glu lam supported roof system with metal stud framing for interior walls. The fire and electrical systems are an extension of the existing systems. The new addition will receive new HVAC units while the remodeled spaces will use existing systems. The medical gases for the new addition will tie into the existing supply units. This is an OSBPD project. The perinatal addition includes operating rooms, labor rooms, and delivery rooms with complex security monitoring systems and nurse call. Several existing parking lots will be reworked to accommodate the new path of travel for the emergency vehicles. This project is phased to diminish the impact to hospital services and will require daily coordination with the hospital staff in order to maintain construction scheduling and access to all facilities. Disruption phasing was critical in order to maintain public access to the existing emergency room, it was necessary to provide 2 construction tunnels that took the public through the new addition and into the adjacent parking lot. These tunnels must be maintained throughout construction.
